After announcing your site to the world, it’s time to introduce yourself and get settled in your community. You can do this by participating in online discussions related to your niche. One place to start is Google Groups. Simply search for groups related to your niche and subscribe to them. Then join the conversation on topics related to your niche.

Another good place to join community discussions is in forums. You can do a search for forums in your niche using the following search query: keyword(s) + forum. Most forums allow you to create a profile and include a keyword-specific backlink pointing to your blog in your signature file. You should note that the highest authority forums will be listed in rank order in the search engine results.

There are also several Web 2.0 sites where you can leave comments, such as Squidoo. To find related pages in communities like Squidoo, use the following search query: keyword(s) site: squidoo.com. Again, the sites with the most authority, will be listed in rank order. Target these sites and leave quality comments along with a keyword-specific link that points back to your site.

To add blog comments to the mix, Comment Kahuna is a free software tool that helps you identify and leave comments on high authority niche blogs. Head on over to their site and register your copy now.

Once you’ve done some social bookmarking and commenting, check to see if your blog has been indexed. This can be accomplished with the following search query in any of the search engines: site: yourdomainname.com. If your site shows up in the search results, congratulations, you’ve been indexed.

Your efforts at social bookmarking and commenting have resulted in:

  • Getting your sited indexed by the search engines; and
  • Building quality backlinks that point to your blog with your keywords in the anchor text.
